Virginia Lopez, a resident at Life Care Center of Paradise Valley in Phoenix, is proud that her artwork is now being sent around the country on the front of hundreds of Christmas cards.
Lopez painted a Christmas tree.
Each year, parent company Life Care Centers of America invites residents in its more than 200 facilities to submit Christmas card designs, and one piece is chosen from each of the organization’s divisions (Lopez won for the Southwest Division, covering Arizona, California and Nevada). The eight winning card designs are printed and distributed to facilities and regional offices throughout the company.
Lopez is active at the facility, participating in music, exercise, pet visits, people watching and religious services. One of her favorites, however, is the art class provided every other week by local artist Vince Valicenti.
“I have dabbled in painting before, but it is great to have an important artist like Vince show me professional techniques,” Lopez shared. “I find it challenging, and it keeps me thinking.”
